Isoms Cafe … Family Owned Alaskan Restaurant On Funny River Road
Isoms Cafe is in the Funny River community of Soldotna, Alaska. The restaurant features cafe baked cookies and pastries. It also has a Laundromat, showers, and sells propane.
When the owners, Bil and Kathie Isom are there, it is a friendly, small town cafe. Locals gather to drink coffee, read the paper, and catch up on community news. And, to enjoy the so-fresh-they-are-still-warm baked goods.
Pride in ownership is clear. The Isoms greet customers. They are bubbly and fill the small cafe with a welcoming atmosphere. They serve good food. They serve it hot. They’ll offer refills of coffee. Perhaps most important of all, they show you they want you to be a happy customer.
We ate there once and knew we wanted to return. Our breakfasts were filling and didn't leave room for pastries – so we bought some to take home. The Isom’s café is one of those places where even travelers can feel at home and feel part of the community.
Besides breakfasts and baked goods, the menu includes burgers and sandwiches, and baskets of deep fried foods. Taco meat is a feature item, showing up in the Spanish omelet, in soft tacos, a couple different taco salads, and as taco pizza.
Breakfast for two cost us $16.00 - $20.00, not including the take home pastries.
Isoms Cafe is located at Mile 11.8 Funny River Road. It's past the Soldotna airport, near the golf course. The phone number is 907-260-3442.
